It all started when…

Founded in the early 1990s as a private, 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, Texas Frontier Trails is working to build and operate a unique outdoor amphitheater that would offer programs and activities of artistic expression and information about Palo Pinto County and the surrounding areas. The theater productions will be focused on the truly unique historical events that occurred in this part of North Texas.

Unknown to most residents of the area, the first cattle drives began right here in Palo Pinto County and were led by now-famous local residents, Oliver Loving and Charles Goodnight. The area struggled in the 1800s to establish ranches and settlements in the face of thunderstorms, water shortages, sounds of predators in the darkness, lonely nights, unscheduled obstacles and unforeseen trials of unstable financial markets; not forgetting these newcomers fighting regularly with bands of Texas-based Native Americans defending their territories. There are great stories to tell current and future citizens of, and visitors to, the region, and Texas Frontier Trails is preparing to tell them. The stories of these "overcomers" must not be forgotten and there is a desperate need to impart this pioneering spirit to the future generations.

Texas Frontier Trails is dedicated to producing high quality plays, concerts, exhibitions, and other programs and activities that are designed to involve and benefit the citizens of Palo Pinto, Parker, Jack, Young, Stephens, Erath, Tarrant, Hood, and the surrounding areas by:

  • providing a broad range of entertainment, cultural and educational experiences based on the history of Palo Pinto County and the surrounding areas

  • providing opportunities for education in local history for the region's young people

  • promoting the use of Texas Frontier Trails Western Heritage Park (formerly Pollard Park) in Mineral Wells for cultural and entertainment activities benefiting the community

  • enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County and the rest of North Texas

Membership in Texas Frontier Trails is open to anyone interested in the organization and its efforts to help the citizens of North Texas learn more about the history of the early Palo Pinto County area. Join us today!
